The state of Alabama is FINALLY taking hoops seriously!
My gripe... we have 8 scholarship players now... of them 6 are good enough to play real minutes in DI hoops. Even at 10 'strong' we still have only 6.
Why doesn't Grant give Ben Eblen a call, we could use him, he could be what Steele was last year, an unexpected spark.
Because Eblen is not what we need. Retin is a much more capable player than him and Lacey can play the point as well if needed. What we need is a big man and sorely. This coming recruit class will help us alot in that respect. Is it too late to get Engstrom a medical redshirt for this year?
Engstrom is eligible for a medical RS since he's played less that 25% of total games for the season (counting the ones he's about to miss).Eblen would be no better than any of our walk-ons... and like I said we only have 6 that can really play to begin with. I believe Grant is regretting letting Charles Hankerson go (was encouraged from what I understand). I said from the moment he left we'd miss him here.
I must admit I am starting to have my doubts about CAG. We have not seen the type of improvement in the program that we should by the fourth year of his tenure. I hope I am wrong about this.
I understand Eblen is no threat to score, and agree that he should never be your starting point guard, however he Is a great defender, and almost never turns the ball over, plus he is a great locker room guy, in regards to us "Needing" big men, I could not agree more, but we really don't have any options there, Gueye and Pollard must step up, and play to their potential.
I still don't understand why Hankerson left, despite the ridiculous claim that he would not be getting enough playing time. What a joke - as much as this team fouls and spends energy in trying to pursue its dream of being a top defensive team. We were short of players, even last year!! Sorry, but the claim of inadequate playing time was totally without logic.I wonder whether the deal was to achieve a big Kentucky-style recruiting class by making room for more scholarships for the very best players. However several of those 5-star-Players, which had Alabama on their list of final options, ended up elsewhere, and even to this day those unfilled positions remain....
