IT MEANS EVERYTHING if we are to hold on to those slim hopes of making the NCAA Tournament. We have 3 road games left with LSU IMO being the most winnable. I've read some say Ole Miss is, but with our history in the Tad Pad we REALLY need to win tomorrow afternoon in Red Stick.
Let's play scenarios... we finish the final five at 3-2 it puts us at 13-5. That's probably not good enough for an at large berth unless we somehow beat Mizzou and UK on our way to the finals of the SECT or or one of those wins is at UF (meaning we lose @ LSU and Ole Miss). Obviously, winning the tournament ends this discussion.
4-1 and we are in IMO. That puts us at 14-4 in conference. Yes, the SEC sucks monkey nuts, but being +10 in a 'Big Boy' conference plus being respectable in the SECT pretty much puts us in as a 10/11 seed.
Don't we all wish we could have back the Dayton, Tulane, Mercer, and Barn games?
LSU has won 5 of their last 7 including 4 straight at home. Johnny O'Bryant has led the team in boards in 9 of the last 10 games and 4 of the last 6 in scoring. He's also dropped 11 double-doubles this season. He torched us in the 1st meeting and probably will give us fits again inside. I think Moussa should take one for the team and...
Another one to watch is Anthony Hickey. While he's still not shooting the ball well he has been doing a better jobs getting his teammates involved averaging just under 5 assist a game the last month. Andre Stringer is still their best 3pt shooter, Shavon Coleman has done a decent job rebounding (in spite of his recent offensive woes), and the 7 foot band geek turned great white hoops star Andrew Del Piero has been serviceable inside since becoming a starter the last 3 games. I predict an EPIC matchup between him and Gueye on both ends of the court.
Bottom line is this... we contain Johnny, we win. We let him go for 20/10 like he's been doing recently we lose. We need production from Cooper and Randolph. We also need to see more Obi-Wan Kenobi (Obasohan) spelling the Trevors at the point. With Steele and Jacobs questionable for the game we are down to 7 that will see the court... and with Pollard looking lost out there (he is rebounding well considering his minutes) that's not a good thing.
Game time is 1:30PM EST on the SECN and watchespn.com.
