Bama to play in Preseason NIT

Finally some good news to report.  Cecil Hurt tweeted today that Coach Grant said we will play in the preseason NIT along with Arizona, Duke, and others.  The preseason NIT is probably the best preseason tournament out there as far as competition and national exposure goes.  I can't wait to see what the brackets look like, and let's hope it's our only appearance in the NIT next year.

The teams in the tournament are Arizona, Duke, and Rutgers. If I am not mistaking, we are guarenteed to play at least one of either Arizona or Duke, no matter what happens.

There are usually 16 teams in the preseason NIT. As I understand the statement, it will include those 3 teams, but that doesn't necessarily mean we will play them.

16 teams? Didn't we play in this tournament this year with 4 teams?

Would be nice to go 'home' to see us play, but I *think* we have to win 2 to make it to NYC. While that is a 'destination' trip I was kinda hoping for something more tropical like Maui, Battle for Atlantis, or Diamond Head Classic.

CT: No, that was the 2K Sports Classic.

The Preseason NIT still follows the classic tournament format, meaning Alabama will have to win two games in Tuscaloosa to make it to Madison Square Garden, unlike other tournaments such as the CBE, 2K Sports Classic, Legends Classic, etc, that automatically put the host teams in the semifinals regardless of what happens in their host games. There is usually a handful of solid teams in these host rounds so there is no guarantee that Alabama will play in MSG. I'd love to see Bama play a team the caliber of a Duke or Arizona. Rutgers has lost quite a few players to transfer in the wake of the Mike Rice mess so preseason expectations will be low.

An interesting article, particularly in the wake of the Lacey transfer earlier this week.

New York City is probably sick of Alabama by now. They have seen us a lot in the past couple of years.
