Trevor Lacey transfers (told you it wasn't the last one leaving)

Link

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama sophomore guard Trevor Lacey has decided to transfer from the men’s basketball program and has been granted his release, Crimson Tide head coach Anthony Grant announced on Tuesday.
“I enjoyed having the opportunity to coach Trevor for the two years he was here,” Grant said. “We certainly wish him the best of luck as he continues to pursue his education and his basketball career.”

My goodness... this is getting ridiculous.

Huge red flag. This makes no sense. Gueye I could understand, he was going to go from being a starter to playing 4-5 minutes per game. Lacey would not have lost minutes on next year's team, and in fact, would have had a good chance to be our leading scorer. He was the only player we had returning who has a good outside shot and can create his own shot. He was arguably Coach Grant's most notable signing, as he was the #1 player in the state and was also being recruited by Kentucky.

Once again, this leaves us with 10 scholarship players eligible to play next year. I've been one of Coach Grant's biggest supporters/defenders here, but I recognized that we needed to be solidly in the tournament with the team we were supposed to have returning next year. Frankly, I don't see that happening now. I will continue to support Coach Grant and the program, and I hope this team surprises me this year, but I will be surprised if we aren't looking for a new coach this time next year.

I think you know, but for the others... my issues with Grant started in St Thomas. Cancelling (allegedly) their day off trip was low rent... and we saw the players' reaction in the St Peter's game.

Transfers, suspensions, not winning a big game since he has been there, roster management, pitiful offense, something is definitely going on down there. If Alabama cares about basketball Grant should officially be on the hotseat. In my opinion he needs a sweet 16 or maybe a Sec championship mixed with a tournament appearence to save his job.

Unreal. Anthony Grant owes the fan base an explanation, for scaring away one of Alabama's most highly rated recruits in a long time, with his incompetence. Don't tell me it was Lacey's decision, or that he was overrated, this happens every year. This is the fault of one person, and one single person only, and that is CAG. Alabama will return to prominence, but one thing is for sure, it will not be with Anthony Grant.

Any chance, Trevor Releford could jump ship as well? Deadline to declare for the draft is in 5 days...

"This makes no sense."

DJ, with all due respect, what have you been watching man??? i knew this was coming. i told you guys his body language was crap. the weight gain. the frustration. this guy is a TWO FUCHING TIME ALABAMA MR. BASKETBALL for freaking christ's sake. and he wasted two seasons.

it makes perfect sense.

the only thing left is the spin job we will surely get from happy on how this was all a part of Coach Grant's grand plan for bringing a national championship to Coleman Coliseum.

and in fairness, as i have stated before, if you are an in-state player with aspirations for getting to the next level, you stay the fuch away from tuscaloosa.

No sugar coating this one. I'm on board with everyone here that this is beyond bad news. Does not bode well for next year (and beyond?) at all.

Lacey was a starter and would have continued to be a starter due to his versatility. The fact he wants to leave is not a good sign. All of the expectations for next season - a season that by all accounts is a make or break year - have suddenly been dealt a very harsh blow. I know Bobby discourages cursing....but god damn it!

It does make sense, I saw signs that Grant's program was falling apart, long before this, which is why I suggested kidding rid of this clown, before the program got in too much trouble. No reason Bama can't get a good coach, somebody in Tuscaloosa is not doing their job, and I am not just talking about CAG, who obviously is not doing his.

"Im not suprised, but imma leave it at that"- Charvez Davis on twitter

Being reported, that Lacey transferred because he was discouraged about the direction of the program under CAG, and he was concerned that Grant could not develop him as a player.

It makes no sense from a playing time standpoint, which is the main reason behind 90% or more of transfers. That's all I was saying, with the team we had coming back, the expectations, and his projected role, there was obviously something else at play.

I'm surprised he didn't declare already. Not even touching on the personality conflicts I don't see what he has to gain by coming back. He has pretty much hit his ceiling offensively with the #s he put up. He's not getting drafted this year or the next so IMO he should start making $$ while he can overseas.

Evan Brock has made a living doing that... and I really think Releford is good enough to get a summer camp invite in the NBA.

Hearing rumors that Devonta Pollard is next.... Let's hope not.

it would be interesting to know what kind of argument the coach (who proclaimed after the SEC tournament he would not be lobbying for his team an NCAA tournament selection) made to keep Trevor Lacey in Tuscaloosa.

"Go to florida, i'll be in their bench next year to"- CAG, probably

crimsontider said...

Grant is enjoying the last year of his 2 mil a year contract, does not have time to worry about trivial stuff like advertising the program, or changing the offense.

crimsontider said...

I feel bad for him, he could have gone almost anywhere.

crimsontider said...

Now rumors floating around that both Cooper and Pollard could be transfering. Anyone heard anything on this?

Msmilie said...

I have heard Pollard, but not Coop. If that goes down, hell they may as well just cancel next season.

crimsontider said...

Apparently Bama online gave credibility to a poster who said that he hear Pollard and Cooper were considering transfering.
