The state of Alabama is FINALLY taking hoops seriously!
Florida, Michigan State, Creighton, and Louisville. Louisville over Florida.
Florida, Michigan State, Arizona (I was tempted to pick Creighton) and Louisville. Louisville over Michigan State (though I would like to see Izzo win his second title)
kansas, mich. st., ok. st., louisville. louisville.
Best first day of the tournament in a long time.
A source tells me Anthony Grant is actively pursing the South Florida head coaching job.
I've heard rumblings, but didn't think they were legitimate enough to bring up. Are these good sources?
Wouldn't surprise me if he is. Has roots in south Florida and is facing a make-or-break season next year. Boy, Battle will really hear about it if that happens after he went out on a limb for Grant.
According to the source, Grant has been unhappy here and for the last 2 years has been waiting for an opportunity he likes outside the SEC.
I can see interest from both sides. It would make sense for all parties involved . However, money will likely prevent it from happening.
If Grant is unhappy, money may not be an issue.
Do you mean that Grant could waive his contract?
Grant would have to pay UA $500,000 if he were to leave. Battle could waive that if he wanted to.
If he is trying to pull a Trent Johnson it is probably best for all involved. He can rebuild his HC resume in a city he'd rather be in... and we can move forward with a new basketball coach. It is a shame though that Buzz Williams and Bruce Pearl are no longer available (Kevin Keatts... after L'ville is done in the tourney/wins it all).I really hope this comes to fruition for all parties involved. It's a win/win IMO across the board.
hell, Battle would probably go hire Mercer's coach.
"Manhattan coach Steve Masiello has emerged as a serious candidate to replace Stan Heath at South Florida, multiple sources told CBSSports.com on Saturday."http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/24496385/manhattans-steve-masiello-emerges-as-serious-candidate-at-usf
Rick Pitino forgot more about basketball this morning then I have ever known, but I don't see why Masiello would take that job. He's got a really bright future, and would be one of my top candidates for the Alabama job if CAG were to leave or get fired.
drifter, how reliable is your source on grant?? i'd be interested to know after battle gives him the vote of confidence if he was actually shopping himself around.
It's how Grant got his gig now... beating a very overrated Duke squad.
Similar comments were made by this source to me over the past few months about CAG being unhappy at Alabama, but until now, no specific other schools were mentioned. The source is well-connected in basketball circles, and I have no reason to doubt the story. It is my personal opinion that the Battle Plan endorsement was composed before the season ended, and thus before any end of season meeting between coach and A.D.Anyway, in reading media reports and USF fan forums; if CAG wants that job, he wants it a lot more than most Bulls fans and at least one influential booster want him.
Best first weekend!
read the "battle plans" prior to that one. it was obvious to me grant's job was secure. i was really rather amused at all the vitriol following the blog where battle backed grant. i thought the post was unnecessary.if grant is shopping himself, it's a slap in the face to battle. period. it makes him look like a fool and he doesn't need any help there.
florida, kentucky, jesus tennessee's gonna get in the sweet 16. and what do we all have in common with our potato head coach??he's watching too.
Drifter, has Grant expressed interest in other jobs besides USF? For example, if Archie Miller were to capitalize on his sweet 16 run, and bolt Dayton for a bigger job, would Dayton (CAG's alma mater) be of interest to him?
Three SEC teams in the tournament, three SEC teams in the sweet 16. This is good for the perception of the league and we will probably see more teams in the tournament next year.
SEC basketball is on the rise. A lot of teams improving, as well as Bruce Pearl coming back into the league. Interested to see how this affects our program.
I have not been told of any others.
Thanks, keep us updated if you here anything.
Folks... this is why I don't gamble on sports anymore. I don't think I ever had 2 Final Four teams gone by the 1st week.Looks like the UF-UCLA winner is a shoo in for the final four. And I'm gonna be a Gator hater again and pick UCLA.
Seth Greenberg @SethOnHoops I expect Steve Masiello to end up at USF. A great job at Manhatten combined with the power of the Rick Pitino pedigree hard to beat
Overall, the SEC is 12-2 in postseason play after today's games. That's great for the league. Now if the teams can just carry it into the non-conference schedule next season.
Adam Zagoria @AdamZagoria 3 hrs Manhattan coach Steve Masiello expected to meet this week with USF officials, source confirms
So, Alabama sold 1.8 million dollars in ticket sales in 2012-2013. Anthony Grant made 1.9 million dollars that year. The Battle plan? http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/03/alabama_athletics_department_r.html
