Ricky Tarrant to transfer

Ricky Tarrant will be playing for his third college next season, as Alabama granted his release.  I wish him the best of luck.

As I said in a previous post, I'm not losing any sleep over anyone who wants to transfer.  We may very well struggle next year as we make the transition into the Coach Avery Johnson era, but I only want guys on this team who will buy in.

no problem if somebody wasn't re-recruiting him. let's see where he lands.

A bit surprised. Ricky was probably a starter next year if he stays (and Avery Johnson did want him to stay, it seems), though I don't think he would have been handed the PG duties. More than likely he would have been asked to play off the ball. Maybe that was his reason for leaving.

Not a big deal as long as Retin and Justin are returning (or Dazon Ingram recommits), but I always hate to see guys leave. Things appear to be trending up with CAJ. I'm not sure why a player wouldn't want to be involved with that? So it goes.

I'm seeing on Twitter he might land at Texas Southern with Mike Davis.

Some people think the move to TS was in the works for weeks.

I was told by somebody who would know that is exactly what happened, he was told he would be playing the 2 guard if he stayed. I think he was gone regardless though.

HA :) Takes this for what its worth.
A former well known Tide football player who lives in NYC tells my friend that Robert Horry may join CAJ as a team 'advisor'.

"advise" away Big Shot! ;)

Tell Marty Lyons I said hello. Would be great to have Big Shot Bob around.

i would be shocked to know Davis 'Gottfreed' us. i will not believe it until proven wrong.

Johnson apparently really likes Ingram and wasn't going to hand anybody the position. With Retin/Tarrant/Ingram/Coleman all involved, I don't think Tarrant wanted to compete for the ball handling duties. I don't think he was coming back regardless of who was the coach. Hopefully nobody else transfers, but I'm still pretty sure we won't lose nearly as many guys as we would have if Grant had been retained.

i told you all what a botched search this was. i told you Battle's mistake in not only tipping his hand to the media but who tipped it to.

now this:

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2015/04/an_alabama_trustee_interviewin.html#comments

“Is anyone bothered that Alabama trustee Finis St. John worked alongside AD Bill Battle as the two-man search team that landed Avery Johnson?”

now keep in mind that Bill Battle’s plan to hire a coach was to have someone leak to Kevin Scarbinsky (who’s been carrying Blazer water since it was announced the Ala/B’ham football program would be axed) that he would be throwing millions (swinging for the fences) at the next coach.

(1.) we currently play Ala/B’ham in several different sports other than football and basketball. this should stop immediately.

(2.) the next person who gives an AL.com broom pusher the time of day should be fired on the spot.

were I in charge of that athletic dept., the first time i heard an AL.com reporter or columnist was on campus they’d be removed by the campus police. they would not get one peep from my athletic dept without a court order under the Freedom of Information Act and only after a vigorous litigation. this is what UA should have attorneys in their employ for rather than attacking a longtime friend and loyal supporter like Daniel Moore.

for the scumbag who was given that story to now try and equate Finis St. John being a part of that bumbling search team to the Jetgate scandal (where Auburn sought to interview a football coach for the head coaching position before they had fired their current coach) is nothing more than scandal mongering.

this is a Ala/B’ham sympathizer doing nothing more than throwing shit against the wall to see what will stick in an attempt to embarrass (or worse) the University over a perceived sight in this Blazer football thing.

free UAB??? God, were I in charge. I’d separate them from that hospital and they’d be free alright. play football now you green and gold pukes.

fuck AL.com.

fuck Kevin Scarbinsky.

fuck Steve Herlihee. (and yeah, Stevie boy, i know how to spell your name, i choose not to, you puke. fuck you)

and last but certainly not least, #FUCKUAB.

Looks like Calipari is coming in last minute to swoop in and steal Dazon Ingram. Cecil Hurt just re tweeted a Dazon tweet about him receiving a call from Calipari last night. UK wasn't even on his list of 10 schools they must of gotten shot down by a few other guards they wanted.

Agreed let UAB have their little independence and football program but separate the medical school since it was started as an extension of the University of Alabama. These freeuab people can't get it in their heads that UAB is a satellite of UA and was started as an extension of UA. I'm not aware of any satellite campus in the United States that has broken away from the mother university.

These people act if their some rebel group fighting an authoritarian government in a third world country...its just so asinine. Its despicable to me that we have a state representative (Jack Williams) whose main goal and concern is to get UAB football back. Meanwhile, the state of Alabama ranks near last in things like education.

Drifter said...

I think that's mainly a shot across AJ's bow. Nothing serious.

DJC said...

Scarbinsky is way off base on this one, and anyone with a brain can see that. That being said, the BOT has done UAB wrong on this football thing. They are part of our system, we should be working with them, not against them. UAB is the biggest employer in the biggest city in the state. As a flagship University, it's simply not good policy to piss on the biggest metro area in the state.

Birmingham has always been an Alabama town, but we're losing ground to auburn here because PBJ continues to fight this juvenile feud with a dead man.

yep. it would tickle me crimson to see Williams primaried over this. heard him and Gary Sanders host Matt Murphy's show one morning. both sounded like idiots.

if we've got Cal's attention, we're doing something right.

citadeltidefan said...

Cecil Hurt said that Calipari was calling to tell him to wait past Monday to decide because if they miss out on Newman then they will offer Dazon as a backup. Hopefully, he doesn't take kindly to being UK's backup plan although going off of his tweet he doesn't seem to care. They already have a PG signed for this class anyway.

finebammer said...

well, it seems Mr. 3 Star is taking Cal seriously. could he actually be worried about Newman???

"PBJ continues to fight this juvenile feud with a dead man."
maybe you should re-assess your allegiance. slander Coach Bryant is what Bartow's and aubie do.

DJC said...

In no way shape or form did I slander Coach Bryant. His son is an entirely different matter, and frankly is a big part of the reason why basketball has long been an afterthought around here. And again, the person responsible for all those things you cite, is worm food right now.
