I know there is technically no East and West, but to make this easier to read I went ahead and broke it down that way. Today is SEC EAST.
The SEC went from a conference with little coaching star power to one where the big names play. Here's who's here and what they did before getting here:
John Calipari (Kentucky)- Final Fours with 3 schools (UMass, Memphis, UK) including a NC with his current employer. Regarded as one of the top 5 currently in college hoops even if you discount the 2 vacated at his previous stops.
Tom Crean (UGA)- former Marquette and Indiana coach with a Final 4 and 3 Sweet 16s in 18 years. Cleaned up a mess in Indiana, but never could get over the hump.
Frank Martin (SC Lite)- Former Kansas St coach that surprisingly took the Gamecock job 7 years ago. Has an Elite 8 (KSU) and a Final Four (SC Lite) under his belt.
Jerry Stackhouse- projected (Vanderbilt)- former G (D) league coach (coach of the year in 2017) and current assistant with the NBA Grizzlies. No college experience, but one heck of a NBA resume as a player. Good gamble by Vandy IMO if true.
Cuonzo Martin (Missouri)- former Tennessee and Cal coach. One Sweet 16 and 2 other NCAAT berths. They were better under Mike Anderson.
Mike White (Florida)- Former LA Tech coach and has an Elite 8 under his belt from 2 seasons ago. Probably the softest resume of the bunch and TBH I'm not sold on him doing too much there.
Rick Barnes (Tennessee)- Former Providence, Clemson, and Texas coach. 31 years and 24 NCAAT appearances including 4 Sweet Sixteens and a Final Four.
