SEC/Big East Challenge and SEC underclassman to declare

Via the NY Daily News so take it for what it's worth.

The Southeastern Conference has engaged the Big East in discussions for a similar series that one insider told the Daily News "are looking pretty serious." The SEC also has explored a series with the Big 12 as a possible fallback.

SEC/Big East Challenge on the way?

This would be huge... matching up with the likes of UConn, Villanova, Syracuse, Cincy, etc would be great for national coverage. As long as JP Sports doesn't get the rights to broadcast (rumored ESPN) it I'm for it!

Kentucky's Rondo to enter NBA draft. Every year he's in college further diminishes his value. Good luck to him. Tubby Smith might follow.
Rondo tries to pull a fast one on the NBA

It makes a whole bunch of sense for us to have a challenge serious similar to the ACC/Big 10 challenge. After this year's NCAA tournament, we certainly have momentum as high as it has ever been. The only problem I see with the Big East is the gross mismatch in # of teams(of course, they'd have that with any challenge). Geographically, it would make most sense for us to match with the Big 12; however, if one buys into the notion that this would lead to one more challenge including the PAC-10, it would make most sense for the SEC and Big East to pair and let the Big 12 and PAC-10 pair.

At the end of it all, it would be very good for the SEC to have a partner and set up a series like this. The more national TV games for the league, the better.

As for Rondo, I'm amused. I could care less about the NBA. I am convinced I love the game of basketball as much as any fan could, but I won't watch the NBA. I do read the boxscores to see how the UA alums are doing. If I were an NBA fan and my team drafted Rondo, I'd be enraged. I don't wish ill will on the kid, so hopefully he proves me wrong. But, I think he's one of the most overrated prospects in SEC history.

I don't care if it's the Big East or Big 12... as long as we establish some sort of "challenge" with a major conference. I have to admit I'll be torn if Alabama plays St Johns :)

Rondo being talked about as a 1st round pick tells me all I need to know about the NBA. Fundamentals be damned... potential is what they look for.

Does St. John's still have a hoops program? ;-)

Miss the sweaters and sweet left-handed jumpers.

Barely... on life support now. :(

For those that don't know, Mike Jarvis is to St John's basketball as Mike Dubose is to Alabama football. Both decimated their programs. With St John's it started with Fran Fraschella and hit it's all-time low in Jarvis' last year.

Anyways, I digress... would love to play UConn or Nova in Tuscaloosa. National exposure is always a good thing.

I would love to see us have this challenge match with the Big East. I don't know how we'd match up, but it could not be bad for the SEC to have them hyped for 2 or 3 months the way the ACC-Big East matchup was hyped on ESPN this past season.
