Fresh Meat- @ Tennessee 1/10 @ 2PM EST (1PM CST)

2 undefeated teams (in conference play) battle in Knoxville, only one comes out a winner. Let's hope for the upset. UTK did beat a hapless Mi$$ $t squad on the road Wednesday which is as close to a bye week as one can have in hoops, but they do have impressive wins over KState and Butler.

UTK write-up.

Josh Richardson is dropping 16.1 a game shooting 39% from beyond the arc. Kevin Punter is the only other Vile in double digits at 10.8 a game. Armani Moore leads the team in boards and blocks. UTK plays 9 with Richardson and Punter playing 30+ a game.

UTK is defensive minded squad only allowing 62.8 a game... while scoring a mere 65.9. The offensive percentages look good, but they don't take a whole lot of them thus the low PPG.

More #s
- 44.2% FG
- 36.1% 3pt FG
- +2.2 rebound margin
- pretty much an even assist to TO ratio (150/154)

Overall, UTK is a smallish team with their tallest player seeing mop up duty so we have a couple of 6'8" guys (Carmichael and McGee) with the rest being guard-like players. Note the 2 listed don't play that much either so I'm hoping we combat them with Taylor, Kessens, and Norris inside.

Game is on the SEC Network

If we are to steal 3 road games this year (to get to possibly 11-7 in the conference) this one is huge. I see wins @ M$U and Vandy and a home loss to Kentucky (think we beat the Gators... finally). I REALLY wish we establish the ball inside to Kessens and Taylor. I think we can dominate them inside.

Hell of a win for our guys today. The way they responded after Tennessee began the half with a 8-1 run was encouraging. They outscored them 26-6 the rest of the way. Richardson for UT was really the only guy who did much, and I thought Alabama did a great job of limiting him down the stretch.

Jimmie Taylor played the best game of his college career today. 13 points, 4 rebs, 2 blocks, affected a ton of other shots, 3-4 from the FT line, and only 2 fouls. Great game.
Coop has been quietly effective this season. Another great game today. Made 70% of his shot attempts, several which came at big moments in the game. 5 rebounds, 5 assists. Just a great game.
Ricky always seems to have a couple of WTF? moments during a game, but the positives far outweigh the negatives for him. Good day scoring, but I thought the biggest part of his game today was on the defensive end. He really stepped up and locked down Richardson as the 2nd half progressed, which played a big part in Alabama being able to go on that big run to end the game.
The bench didn't score a single point today, which seems odd in an 18 point win, but Riley and Shannon did combine for 9 rebounds off the bench.

A long way to go, but this team seems to have gotten better since the gut-wrenching loss to Wichita State. I'm excited to see how it plays out. And while the narrative from the national basketball writers remains that the SEC is horrible, Kentucky has narrowly avoided an 0-2 start in conference play. I think that speaks volumes for how improved the conference is this season. Definitely more than three teams will be repping the SEC in the NCAA tournament this season.
