It's Game Day! Alabama vs Trevecca Nazarene

Alabama basketball returns tonight! The men's team will face Trevecca Nazarene in an exhibition game at Coleman Coliseum. Tip time is 7:00.

Trevecca Nazarene is a Division II school from Nashville. An experienced team, they return virtually their entire roster from last season. After playing tonight, Trevecca will officially begin their season with a game tomorrow (!) against Tennessee Wesleyan, a conference opponent (!!). Talk about a quick turnaround.

As the season progresses and actual stats are accumulated, I will list stats in this space. Expect to see full stats for each team for every game preview starting with the Dayton game.

Three Players to Watch for Trevecca Nazarene:

1. Byron Sanford - G - 6'0, 175 lbs - Led team in scoring (18.1) assists (4.4) and steals (2.7) last season.
2. Matt Gamberoni - C - 6'10, 250 lbs - Third in scoring (10.7). Led team in rebounds (7.6) and blocks (1.0) last season.
3. Tyrell Corlew - G - 6'4, 195 lbs - Second in scoring (10.8). 37% from 3, 78% at the free throw line.

For a Bama team breaking in a new coaching staff, and a roster that is half made up of freshmen and sophomores, a deep, experienced team like Trevecca may provide some challenges, particularly if Alabama comes out sloppy. Exhibitions are no longer glorified scrimmages. Alabama has had some close calls in recent years; and just this week, a D2 school beat St. John's by 32 points (yes, 32 points), while Auburn was taken to overtime last night, winning a game that totaled 223 points. It may not count against the record, but nobody likes to lose these types of games.
